Accessibility

What we aim for

We build and test our main visitor pages — the home page and schedule, rentals, membership, donations, printable schedules, and volunteering — against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. That's the standard most public institutions in the U.S. are held to.

What the site does today

• A “Skip to content” link on every page for people using a keyboard or switch device.
• Full keyboard operation of menus, the schedule, the event pop-up, and forms — with a clear gold outline showing where you are.
• The auto-rotating home-page banner has a pause button and does not move at all if your device is set to reduce motion.
• Text and buttons are sized and coloured to stay legible, and we've raised the contrast of small red text so it meets the AA standard on our dark background.
• Images and controls carry descriptive labels so screen readers can announce them, and the schedule updates are announced as you filter.

Known limitations

We'd rather be honest about the gaps than pretend they aren't there. We're working on these:

• Printable monthly schedules are images of a printed page, which a screen reader can't read aloud. The same information is always available as readable text on the What's Playing page.
• The lobby arcade games are extras for fun. Most can be played with a keyboard, but a few rely on a mouse or touch, and by their nature they involve a lot of movement. They aren't held to the AA standard.
• Some links open other companies' sites (for example online ticketing or our social media). We don't control how accessible those pages are.

If any part of this site — or anything at the theatre — is hard to use, please tell us. We take it seriously and will help you get what you need another way, whether that's reading you the schedule, taking a reservation by phone, or fixing the page.
